There has always been a Purple Hood. “The Kings Man” and then the international agent used by HM Government to deal with external and internal threats.

Mad men with nuclear bombs.

Organised drug cartels.

Power hungry dictators.

The Britton family have always been Purple Hoods. The Purple Hood is precise and clinical in his work. But above all else those wearing the Hood have had guidance from their consciences. So when the military stand idly by, unable to act when civilians are massacred –when politicians only draw up policy and blow warm air….. ...does the Purple Hood –does John Britton– sit back on his hands idly awaiting a change in policy?

Or does John Britton pull on the Hood and say: “Enough! The line is drawn and crossed!”

Time for the bad men to run.

Time to hide. Or time to die!

Ben Dilworth writes and draws this mini epic.Black Tower:

Murdering Ghouls. Satanic Masses. Demonic Possession. Werewolves. Poltergeists. Vampires. To many of the uninitiated these are just “things that go bump in the night” -TV or film fantasy.

In the Victorian era, The Phantom Detective used his decades of occult study to help those in danger from these “things” and he paid the ultimate price…. ….

Yet he continues to help and to observe as best he can for now he is a true...

PHANTOM DETECTIVE!

From one of the UK's most under -rated comic creators, Ben R. Dilworth, comes new life breathed into and a new slant given to the adventures of the former mortal who has become one of the Watchers -forbidden to act even to save a life from supernatural forces.  Except "rules are there to be broken or at the very least stretched until you can see through them!"

The much anticipated collection from the co-creator of Peter Wisdom and artist of Mark Millar's The Shadowmen!

Wilberforce—a Sergeant on the Metropolitan Police Detective Force.

But Wilberforce was no common “Jack” (police officer). Even before working with the famous Chung Ling Soo (The Case Of The Thames Serpent), Wilberforce had “tasted the chin strap” on many tough cases –even a stint in the Army saw him used because of his detective skills.

Here, Ben R. Dilworth, gives us a sneak peek into Wilberforce’s Case Notes for 1896.

“A Jack’s lot is not a happy one” and Wilberforce was not just dealing with the ordinary criminals such as the nobblers, rampsmen, smashers, mobsmen, snoozers and skinners…. ...there were the spectres, the satanic followers, vampires and other monsters —things the ordinary copper never usually encountered and often scoffed at the stories of. Wilberforce knew better.

Created by William A. Ward for Swan Comics in the 1940s,Krakos was one of Ward’s supernatural anti-hero types.

Used, with Swan’s permission,in Black Tower Adventure strips in the 1980s/1990s,this is the character’s first solo outing.

But will Krakos fulfill the Goddess Isis’ dream and become the new pharoah of a New Egyptian Kingdom that will encompass all of the Middle East? Did anyone actually ask Krakos?

The book contains information on Ward and his work plus sample pages rescued after 60 years of neglect!

Don't let the werewolf bite your bottom!

te your bottom!

Right. Despite the eye problem and other factors the scans have been cleaned and all that has to happen now is the magic of lettering which should be started Monday.

I much prefer drawing (when I get the energy) to all the scanning. cleaning and lettering but no one forced me into this!

I did realise that I would need to change the story which means I have another story not used to store in my head.

Don't let the werewolf bite your bottom!

A Quick Update

Photo to the left is me when I was trying to work out a publishing schedule earlier on.

To be honest there is no publishing schedule. I have two books and issue 3 of Comic Bits that I want to get out by Christmas plus The Curse of The Lycanthrope.

I've scanned and cleaned the book with the most pages and the 80+pp Werewolf -Questors book is currently having art cleaned and then its the lettering. I'm hoping all of that will be complete by November but based on sales there is no major rush.

After that, or maybe between all of the above when I get bored and my hands and eyes work, I may start inking the second part of the Special Globe Guard Earth Strike  story (ahem...I have already started inking some of the art). The Chronal War was due to be (back a few years now)over 100+pp but if I can I am going to try to keep the page count to around 80pp.  I have so many scripts and I know 90% of the ideas will never be drawn.

I was going to write that if I won the National Lottery I would pay artists to draw the comics but it was just pointed out that "You have to buy a lottery ticket first!"  Absolutely no support from ones "loved ones"!!

I have not forgotten D-Gruppe -Germany's Premiere Super Team- but artists "committed" to work on the project...."uncommitted" themselves.

So keep calling back for updates and the occasional art page.

Scanned! Now Comes The Clean-Up Then Lettering

Well, all 86 pages of the Year of The Werewolf strip are scanned. Took a couple hours but the problem pages were those at A3 size.

I purchased by Mustek A3 scanner back in 2004 and I've had to clean and repair it a few times but now it is making a noise like a helicopter!  My sister even came in to ask what the noise was!  So it looks like good old Mustek is going out with the trash.

Sadly, not enough money in sales to buy a new or reconditioned one and even attempting a sponsor deal with Mustek a few years back came to nothing so it is lucky that most of the pages for this issue were on A4 even if that allows for less design freedom.

Now I get to clean the scans and after that...lettering.

I did get one break. The 100+pp for the book after that?  I did scan them all (A3) and cleaned them up all before the last Covid visit. I completely forgot so that will be straight to lettering. A good few hours of my life won't be wasted on that!

I have to admit I much prefer just drawing and designing pages when I get the energy which is a good thing since there are no artists panting at the bit to do work for the fun and love of it  -it's what I do now since it obviously does not pay.  Which makes me wonder what happened after being called the "new company to keep an eye on" (even though BTCG had been going 30 years by that point)? Or the glowing comments and reviews on blogs -maybe people are literally just looking? Maybe the reviews , etc should have read "The comic company to BUY from!" Just a thought. 😉

Now my eyes need a rest and later I may either start inking some of the Special Globe Guard no. 1 pages or pencil out panels for.... oh, should I even write the title?

Okay, The Chronal War. Title seemed better than "Her We Go With A Lot More Eye Straining"
